SUNDAY'S ANTHEM TEXT

Give me that old time religion, give me that old time religion, give me that old time religion, it's good enough for me. It was good for my dear mother, it was good for my dear mother, it was good for my dear mother and it's good enough for me. It was good for the Hebrew children, It was good for the Hebrew children, It was good for the Hebrew children and it's good enough for me. So give me that old time religion, give me that old time religion, give me that old time religion, it's good enough for me. Oh my Lord, It's good enough for me.

DISCIPLES MAKING DISCIPLES

After a forest fire in Yellowstone National Park, forest rangers began their trek up a mountain to assess the inferno's damage. One ranger found a bird literally petrified in ashes, perched statuesquely on the ground at the base of a tree. Somewhat sickened by the eerie sight, he knocked over the bird with a stick. When he gently struck it, three tiny chicks scurried from under their dead mother's wings. The loving mother, keenly aware of impending disaster, had carried her offspring to the base of the tree and had gathered them under her wings, instinctively knowing that the toxic smoke would rise. She could have flown to safety but had refused to abandon her babies. Then the blaze had arrived and the heat had scorched her small body, the mother had remained steadfast ... because she had been willing to die, so those under the cover of her wings would live. - 'He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.' (Psalm 91:4)

CHOIR NOTES

Next Choir Social: Tonight! following rehearsal. Donations will be received at each social event, beginning next month, and receipts will be added to the social fund.

  • With many, many thanks for a job extraordinarily well done, we reluctantly receive Bea’s “resignation” from accompanying the Sanctuary Choir. Bea needed additional childcare time and additional time to assist with Bruce’s job. It was a pleasure to enjoy Bea’s sensitive accompanimental skills. So . . . we now gratefully welcome Jim Norris as our Sanctuary Choir Accompanist. Initially, Jim will share the worship accompanying duties with Mark, with ongoing plans toward his full-time accompanying of the choir.
  • Members of the choir are invited to join with the MCC-Red Mountain Choir, with Director Glenn Bennett, in performing the Benjamin Britton Ceremony of Carols and Bach Magnificat on Tuesday, December 14th, in our Sanctuary. Rehearsals will be on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. on the Red Mountain campus. See Jane for a rehearsal schedule.

HUMORESQUE

A police officer in a small town stopped a motorist who was speeding down Main Street. "But officer," the man said, "I can explain." "Just be quiet!!!" snapped the officer. "...or I'm going to let you cool off in jail until the chief gets back." "But officer, I just wanted to say...." "And I said KEEP QUIET! Now you're going to jail!" A few hours later, the officer checked up on his prisoner and said, "Lucky for you that the chief's at his daughter's wedding. He'll be in a good mood when he gets back." "Don't count on it," said the man in the cell. "I'm the groom!"

The Sanctuary Choir sings for most Sunday morning services from September through May. The Choir is open to all who love serving our Lord through His gift of song!

Choir Guidelines
  1. Choir members should be committed to attend rehearsals and worship services regularly. Since we rehearse music several weeks in advance, you are needed at Wednesday rehearsals even if you will be absent the following Sunday.
  2. Please be in the Choir Room by 6:55 p.m. on Wednesdays and in the Sanctuary choirloft by 8:55 a.m. on Sundays, so we can begin our rehearsals/warm-ups on time.
  3. Each member has a slot in the choir room folder cart. Slot assignments are listed on the side of the cart. You may take your music home to study, but be sure to bring it back on Sundays.
  4. On Wednesdays, get the folder and music from your slot and the In-Choir-ing Minds newsletter by the piano.
  5. For planned absences, sign your name on the large attendance calendar. Unplanned absences Choir Practiceshould be reported to your section leader. (Section Leaders who will be absent should designate a substitute section leader or contact the Director.) Notes from the choir newsletter are also available online at http://www.fpcmesa.org/SanctuaryChoir.htm.
Check the Rehearsal Schedule in In-CHOIR-ing Minds to see what music will be rehearsed. If you are missing an anthem, tell the Music Librarians BEFORE the rehearsal begins.
  6. While other sections are rehearsing, please keep private discussions to a minimum.Choir in Sanctuary
  7. We sit in close proximity to one another, and our singing requires good, full breathing; avoid ALL perfumes/colognes.
  8. On Sundays, put our worship music in order at the front of your folder. (Recommendation: the folder is more manageable when it contains only Sunday's music.)
  9. New: When entering the Sanctuary on Sundays, hold your folder down in your left hand (away from the congregation).. Row leaders should walk to the chair before the row signs. If no sign is in the chairs, walk to the end of the row.
  10. During the prelude, microphones will also pickup casual conversations!
  11. The Director will signal the choir when it is time to stand and sit. (Leave folders open when being seated.)
  12. Recessional spacing should be two pews apart. Leaders: use a moderate pace.
  13. Do not carry purses, waterbottles, etc. during Processionals and Recessionals.
  14. Offer the readings at unison tempo, so the focus is on the readings not on individual readers.
  15. Turn in your music after worship, unless you have been told by the librarians to keep it (note on white board).
  16. Music should be placed in the tray on top of the folder cabinet.
  17. If you would like to assist the choir in areas in addition to singing, consider being a Choir Officer.
  18. Try to avoid Sunday office duty, liturgist duty, and other commitments which prevent your regular attendance in the choir. (Other members of the congregation will then have additional opportunities to serve.)
  19. Hang your robe and fully close all exposed velcro. For cleaning/repair needs, please see the Robes chairperson. (Do not wear your robe while eating!)

Your participation, commitment, and partnership in ministry

are deeply appreciated.

Together, let us sing joyfully unto our Lord!
